Safe caravan travel with a pet

Traveling by RV offers a unique freedom, and taking your cat or dog with you can make the trip even more special. While traveling with a pet requires some extra planning, it is entirely possible to ensure their safety, comfort, and happiness along the way. Here are some ideas to make the experience enjoyable for both you and your cat or dog.

Preparing for travel with a pet

Veterinary check: Before you set off, make sure your pet is vaccinated and has a microchip.

Ticks/Diseases: When traveling with a cat or dog, it is important to ensure that they are protected from ticks and other potential diseases. All of our caravans are equipped with the necessary equipment to remove ticks. Check your cat or dog after your trip to catch ticks early and prevent them from being passed on to people.

Preparing a pet-friendly RV

Create a dedicated area for your pet to relax and hide. Cats feel safer when they have a place to retreat to. Especially if you are in such a small space with small children or other pets, it is important for them to have their own area to run around.

Check your caravan for hazards, such as open windows, loose wires or spaces where a curious cat could get stuck.

Finding a place for your cat’s litter box can be difficult in such a small living space. It is important to choose a stable and accessible place, preferably in a ventilated area. For travelers with dogs, we recommend thinking about where to dry the dog if necessary and, if possible, plan a specific place for the dog near the door.

When traveling with a pet, it is necessary to consider the location and accessibility of their food and water bowls. When traveling with cats, we recommend bringing a scratching post to prevent damage to the rental property.

On the road

Safe Driving: Keep your pet safe while traveling to ensure their safety and minimize distractions. A cat carrier is often the safest option for many cats, but preferences vary. It is recommended that you keep your pet in the car with you.

Routine stops: Plan regular breaks to check on your pet. Just like humans, your pet needs clean food and water and to relieve itself.
